& Reception

| In association with the Chinese Consulate General, 48 Group
Club, and Manchester City Council, ChinaLink organised
a Chinese New Year Briefing & Reception on January 15th, 2004 at 5:00 p.m.
at the official residence of the Chinese Consul General of China, Mr. Deng
Boqing, in Stockport. A number of short briefings were presented before
the reception. |

Mr. Deng, in his personal invitation stated:
" Closing the curtain on 2003 can not be done without a reflection on an
unforgettable year for China-UK relationship. |

| " At home in China, we have seen the successful transition
of central government to a new generation of leaders. We have witnessed
the surging forward of Chinese economic development in the wake of China's
WTO accession taking China into the number one country receiving FDI in
the world. The SARS scare did not slow down the Chinese economy, it brought
home the reality of how far the globalisation has taken us and how important
the international co-operation is. Prime Minister Tony Blair's visit to
China and other high level exchanges have further developed the UK - China
partnership. Many organisations and individuals in the Northwest have contributed
greatly into forging links with China from this region. I am sure we all
have much good news to share with each other at this exciting time. " |
