Summer in the UK may not have turned up this year but British interest
and activities in China market is heating up. We are pleased to spoil
you with 3 (potentially 4) high quality speakers available to us at the
next Club meeting.
How can British companies tap into the potential of international events
in China, such as Beijing Olympics 2008 and Shanghai World Expo 2010?
Arup has been celebrating their recent success in winning contracts to
design the $500m Olympic Stadium in Beijing as part of a consortium, the
National Swimming Centre in Beijing, the new terminal at Beijing Capital
Airport project, and the Beijing Dongzimen Public Transport Interchange
project. Malcolm Gresty has been closely involved in Arup’s activities
in the China market and his Case Studies on Arup’s success will not only
give us tips on ways into the market of Beijing Olympics but also points
to other opportunities in the Sports & Leisure Infrastructure sectors.
Dr. Simon Duan has been active in promoting technology transfer between
China & UK, especially in the industrial sector areas of Electronics,
materials & IT. As consultant of PERA, a DTI funded international technology
programme, Simon will shed light on where opportunities for the sectors
are in China in his Topical Discussion.
Beryl Chan will travel from Shanghai to speak at the meeting. She covers
Biotech and Pharmaceutical Sectors in her work as a member of the UK Trade
& Investment team at the Shanghai British Consulate General. She has helped
many ChinaLink trade missions and many British companies in China and
is expertly experienced with the ever changing biotech and pharmaceutical
sectors in the China market.
To many members, David Marsden of HKTDC Director of UK & Ireland requires
no introduction as he has spoken and supported meetings of the Club in
the past. He speaks with authority on recent changes in the Hong Kong
market, the implementation of the CEPA initiative and Southern China regional
market integration. David will confirm his availability next week.
Dr Kegang Wu, Director of ChinaLink, will brief on a number of UKTI funded
opportunities for companies in the above sectors to participate in various
major trade fairs and trade seminars in China, including the China Hi-Tech
Fair, Canton Fair, Shanghai International Sourcing Fair, Shanghai International
Industrial Fair, Beijing International Green Building Materials (Green
Olympics) and the British trade seminars attached to some of these events.
Information on the “Last Voyage” of the UKTI multi-sector mission scheme
will also be available (the funding scheme will cease to operate in 2005).
As usual, you can field your questions (any question about China market)
at the Open Forum time after the presentations to all the speakers and
other attendees. And if you cannot finish the discussion at the meeting,
there will be always time to continue the debate at the optional but popular
Club dinner at the end.
Closing date for registration is 6th September 2004. Places are limited
and priority will be given to Club Members (for non-members bookings are
guaranteed and accepted only on receipt of payment).
