| ChinaLink has had a busy and rewarding year in 2001.
We have successfully completed 6 Trade Partners UK contracts in China
including missions, trade seminars, exhibition and showcase. It has
gone through the TPUK accreditation process and has been benchmarked
against the Good Practice Framework for International Trade Schemes.
Leading the NW region we operate NWDA China website as a centre of
service provision. We are now the recognised quality service supplier
within British Chambers of Commerce, UNIDO, NWDA and others. Our network
of Chamber Partners in China has extended (18 members). At the back
of two successful years in organising British delegation at the China
Hi-Tech Fair ChinaLink has forged a long-term partnership with China
Hi-Tech Transfer Centre on international technology transfer. |
| While the commercial services have satisfied many clients,
highlight of the year is the success of the consultancy and facilitation
service in facilitating the international tendering and contract negotiation
of a £‘3m contract from China for Telescope Technologies Ltd. We have
developed an excellent model through this project on how our own services
interface of those of DTI, TPUK, InvestUK, UNIDO, NWDA and other governmental
services.Our clients are now coming from all over the country. Locally
we have completed the Merseyside China Link project and are involved
the next phrase of European projects |
| For the sister city links we are entrusted by Liverpool
City Council to operate the China Affairs Office. |
| • Appointed market consultant and successful facilitated
the international tendering and contract negotiation of a £‘3m contract
to build the biggest astronomical telescope in Lijiang (photo), China.

• Handled 376 China market related enquires to 230 companies/organisations,
• Conducted 130 consultancy sessions and 72 consultancy visits

• Set-up three Representative Offices in China and recruited
their member of staff

• Operated China Affairs Office for
the Liverpool-Shanghai links on behalf of the Liverpool City Council
and organised a number of successful events including high level visits
of the two city's leaders. |

• Extended the unique transnational network in China from
15 members to 18 members of Chinese Chambers of commerce, including
a long term agreement with China Hi-Tech Transfer Centre on UK-China
technology transfer co-operation
• In partnership with the North West Development Agency and
Trade Partner UK developed a North West regional
• website for China: www.nwda-china.org.uk. Continued to
operate a bilingual internet service for over 40 companies through
www.chinalink.org.uk, which received hundreds of, enquires and have
resulted in orders for clients.

by Trade Partners UK to organise the British Hi-Tech Delegation at
the China Hi-Tech Fair, led by Lord David Sainsbury, Minister of Science
and Technologies. |

| • Awarded 5 contracts by Trade Partners UK for
events in China in year 2002, highest number of such contract among
any UK chambers. |

• Set-up and operates the British
Giftware Showcase (Shanghai) and the website www.ukgift.net |

Chinese companies. |

• ChinaLink's services and activities have been covered by
local, regional and national media, and many Chinese media.
• Represent British Chamber of Commerce in a number of EU
initiatives in cooperation with China.
