| Located in the prime position of the China Hi-Tech
Fair, Shenzhen, the 'Britain in China' pavilion proudly displayed
a selective number of hi-tech companies and R&D organisations. Led
by Dr. Kegang Wu of ChinaLink, the UK delegation showed only a tip
of iceberg of the leading edge British hi-tech industries. |

In a week of 11th - 17th this month in Shenzhen, China, during
which over 4000 exhibitors from China and overseas competed with
their products and services of hi-tech industries at the 2nd China
Hi-Tech Fair, it was the British delegation who was on the headlines
of the local media all the time. The once a year high profile event
for the trade and business cooperation between China and the world
in the hi-tech industries was visited by ten of thousands around
the world.
The British exhibition delegation was headed by Mr. John Prescott,
the Deputy Prime Minister, making the UK delegation highest ranking
among all the western delegations.

from UK companies took part in the event led by Dr. Kegang Wu, Manager
of ChinaLink, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce & Industry that has been
appointed by Trade Partners UK (British Trade International) to co-ordinate
the British present at this important event. The present of Mr. John
Prescott has attracted the attention of many local media and his visit
to the ChinaLink Pavilion. |
| As one of the leading countries in hi-tech industries,
United Kingdom put great emphasis in developing co-operation with
China in the sectors. Exhibition of British companies covered all
the main themes of the Fair. |
| Representing higher education and research is the University
of Central Lancashire that offers leading edge research in areas such
as Materials Science, Electronics, Learning Technologies, Fire and
Explosion Studies, Astrophysics and consultancy. |
| In computing and IT sectors, there are Turning System
and InforSense Ltd. Turning System is a manufacturer in providing
multi-process server for high performance software applications. InforSense
is specialised in knowledge discovery and management software solutions,
systems and services to organisations working in life sciences, finance
and e-business. |
| Advanced technologies in the electronical industry will
be represented by Westinghouse Signals, which has been signalling
railways for well over 100 years and today leads the world in advanced
technology signalling and train control systems, and iS3 (or the Integrated
Semiconductor Supply Solutions Ltd) which offers digital, mixed signal
and analogue design services in CMOS, BiCMOS and bipolar technology.
There are also Connect and Control Systems (CCS operates in the manufacture
of cable assemblies and electro-mechanical assemblies and the distribution
of electronic components) and Primary Industry Ltd. that seek co-operation
in trading of air-conditioners. |
| UK is leading the biotechnology in the world and this
time in the UK pavilion we have Proxima Concepts (an international
bio-pharmaceutical R&D company employing proprietary drug delivery
technologies to help the biotechnology industry achieve its potential
in the field of healthcare and medical therapeutics); Mast (providing
high quality diagnostic products to Microbiologists, Immunologists,
Blood Bankers, Virologists and Clinical Chemists world-wide) and Serologicals
(a leading world-wide provider of biological materials and services
to major healthcare companies). |
| One of the reasons behind the strong performance of
the UK hi-tech industries is the highly sophisticated hi-tech related
service sectors that provide specific support in financial, management,
insurance, and other areas. In the UK pavilion, you will see Delloit
& Touche (the world leading accounting and financial service company),
Royal & SunAlliance (the first UK insurance company to operate in
China), and Invest UK (the British governmental agency that assists
and encourages overseas companies with internationally mobile investment
projects to locate in the UK). |
| As the UK organiser to ChinaLink, Liverpool Chamber
of Commerce & Industry has won the Award of Excellent Organisation
given by the Fair's organising committee. Hundreds of Chinese companies
and organisations have expressed interest to co-operate with ChinaLink
and other UK companies in trade and investment. ChinaLink has also
signed an agreement with a promising biotech company. |
| Liverpool Chamber ChinaLink has committed to assist
long-term co-operation between the UK and Chinese hi-tech industries.
It has signed a three years agreement with the China Hi-Tech Transfer
Centre for co-operation. |
