Communication Systems
Fylde Microsystems manufactures electronic controllers for radio communications
systems. These controllers connect to radio transmitters to make a very
sophisticated and intelligent communications network.
Unlike public cellular mobile telephone systems, a Fylde system is for
private mobile radio. This means that a private company can operate their
own private mobile communication system proving mobile services to the
system users.
Public Cellular Networks
A public network is usually government controlled and will provide access
to any user who purchases connection.
Public networks often offer national coverage and international dialling.
Interaction with the operators of public networks can be difficult due
to red tape and poor access.
Public networks usually charge both a connection/line rent and again
for all individual calls made.
Private Networks
The system operator of a private network decides:
- the coverage of the network
- the system capacity
- the services on offer
- the charges
and many more.
System access and calls made on a private network can be tailored to
the individual user. For example, it can be configured to provide access
to international PSTN dialling or, at the other extreme, limited to allowing
only data calls.
Private networks usually charge for the service required not the individual
calls. This reduces costs for fleet users.
Private networks can offer sophisticated vehicle location services.
System operators can expand the system as funding and experience increases.
