LEADING FURNITURE EDGE TECHNOLOGY
As the most significant new manufacturing
technology for decades, Polyform is revolutionising the manufacture of
furniture. Polyform provides a modern, stylish yet durable alternative
to traditional edge finishing techniques for chipboard, M.D.F., composites
& many other materials. The Polyform process uses Durelast® two-component
polyurethane material which bonds directly to the substrate. The Durelast®
material can be made in almost any colour, mould almost any profile and
with different surface textures.
Key Polyform features are:
* STYLISH - available in bright colours &
modern profiles
* DURABLE - offers superior impact & abrasion
resistance
* HYGIENIC - easy to clean with no unsightly
joint lines
* SAFE - smooth curves & radii replace sharp
corners
* PRACTICAL - cost effective for low, medium
or high volume
Currently in use with many household
name companies and blue chip organisations, furniture with Polyform
edges is leading the way in major retail and financial institutions; restaurants
and hotels; systems office furnishing and computing applications; schools
and colleges; laboratories and scientific equipment; hospitals; transport;
police stations and airports. In all of these applications the durability,
quality and cost effectiveness of the Polyform finish combine with versatility
and design freedom to give benefit to manufacturers & end users alike.
Since 1988 furniture manufacturers
across three continents have been using Polyform table edging systems.Through
our unique position as originators and sole suppliers of the Polyform
system and leaders in the promotion and development of this technology,
Polyform Ltd. offers a complete package of processing equipment, consumable
materials, expertise and training. This enables the furniture manufacturer
to establish an effective production capability simply and efficiently.
THE SIMPLE PROCESS
Polyform is a moulding process where
a liquid, two-component polyurethane is cast at low pressure into a simple
mould tool. The two materials react chemically in the mould to form a
solid, bonding to the substrate & copying mould surface as they cure.
FIRST step in the Polyform process
is to produce a precision master panel and a mould box. Both are usually
of M.D.F. with a tough lacquer finish. Profiles including upstands, curves,
radii, undercuts and returns, or even varying edge profiles around the
same component, are all encompassed within the Polyform system. SECONDLY
a flexible mould liner (also in polyurethane) is cast around the master
to give an accurate negative copy. FINALLY with the master removed and
a blank to be edged in its place, the rigid Durelast® polyurethane
is cast into the space between blank and mould liner. The liquid material
will cure to a solid, taking the shape of the mould & bonding to the
substrate - so replicating the master on every occasion.
With the mould construction using
materials and technology already at the disposal of the furniture manufacturer,
Polyform tooling costs can be kept to a minimum whilst allowing the maximum
flexibility to change or alter the designs and profiles in use.
Polyform recommends and supports Durelast®
polyurethane edging material by Hyperlast Ltd, the largest British manufacturer
of two-component polyurethane materials.
